Lucky aka Cain’s Update

Posted on: Tuesday November 22

Cain, now Lucky, is adjusting very well!  He is such a good dog!  We love him very much!
We took him to the vet the weekend after we got him.  He is doing great!  We got a prescription to keep his heartworm and flea and tick medication on schedule and gave it to him with no problems!
We have looked at a few places to take him and train him, we are just narrowing it down now.
We kept his bone shaped tag on him and added our own tag that has our information on it and his new name.
We are very lucky to have him!  Thanks for checking in on how he’s doing!

Blondie and Dagwood’s Update

Several weeks ago I was fostering a number of the Survivor Kittens.  While 3 of my fosters were adopted early on, I still had four.  I adopted two of them myself and am still working to find a home for the last 2 survivor kittens.

My adopted Survivors are Blondie and Dagwood and they are showing such brotherly love in these photos.  I love these cats so much and they are doing great with my dogs and the two foster Survivors I still have.
I am so happy to have adopted these precious kittens.  They have added much joy to our lives.

Joseph (we call him”Indy” now) is doing great. He gets along with everyone kids, dogs, even our cat is warming up to him. He started obedience classes on Saturday. He is pretty smart and he is basically pretty good for a puppy. I should also mention that Indy visits my daughter’s dance studio once a week where he is well loved and gets to interact with a lot of kids. He is so sweet and gentle with them all and never gets tired of all the attention. Here is a pic of him napping with our 8 year old dog, they are good friends.

Lucy aka Doodle’s Update

Posted on: Sunday November 6

I wanted to write a quick note to you all about Lucy f/k/a “Doodle” the puppy who my husband and I adopted in August of this year.  My husband and I contemplated adopting a dog for years.  And I mean years.  We came to several of your events but it just was never the right time.  That was until we saw Lucy.

When we adopted now Lucy, she was approximately 12 weeks old and a little munchkin who slept her entire first day with us.  I thought we had hit the jackpot with the world’s calmest puppy!

Little did we know her true personality would soon reveal itself, and the calm puppy would turn into the rambunctious little girl that lives with us today.  Lucy is quite the social butterfly.  She has made leaps and bounds since the first day we brought her home and I think Mom and Dad have too.  She has since graduated puppy class with Carol at Petsmart Fair Lakes and made a million friends in the neighborhood as she’s never met a dog she doesn’t like.  Lucy loves her daily walks with her dog walkers and looks forward to her one day a week daycare special.  Most importantly however, she has stolen our hearts.

I am not going to lie, the first week was rough.  I looked at my husband and said “what did we get ourselves into?!”  But Lucy has bonded with us and every day I look forward to leaving work so that I can get home and see her sweet face.

Lucy has quite the personality with her goofy sleeping positions and head tilts, and is a very smart pup.  She has gone to Whole Foods for outdoor Sunday football days, walked Burke Lake Park, and does very well in the car.  We did a wisdom panel on Lucy as she and her sister were listed as a ‘Hound blend” with her mom as a “Doberman blend”.  With her sister having one blue eye and Carol from class noticing she has harness pulling instincts, we knew there was some Husky in her, but based on her looks assumed lab as well.

We were wrong!

She does have some Husky, some American Staffordshire terrier, but is mostly Great Pyrenees!  Lucy’s vet even called out the Great Pyrenees which truly impressed us.  Lucy is a frequent flyer at the Pender Vet, with all her puppy shots, checkups, etc.  We are very lucky that she does very well going to the vet, and is happy to see all the doctors and nurses.

Lucy loves all dogs and does great with kids.  Mostly importantly, she is loved and adored by her Mom and Dad.  Wherever we go people stop to compliment us on her and we couldn’t be happier to have her in our family.  She is truly the center of our world now.

We wanted to thank you for giving Lucy a chance to be rescued and for allowing us to adopt her.  We can’t possibly imagine our lives without her now.  Thank you for all the important work you do!

Bella aka Tani’s Update

Posted on: Saturday November 5

My husband and I adopted Tani (now Bella) two weeks ago, and the three of us couldn’t be happier! Bella was a bit shy and timid when we saw her at the adoption event at the Petsmart in Potomac Yard, but she’s come out of her shell a ton since then and is now a playful puppy. We have spent a lot of time at the dog park, so she’s had lots of socialization and is increasingly playful and confident in interacting with other dogs. Bella loves belly rubs and snuggling with us in the evenings. She’s such a sweetheart!

Bender aka Jeremy’s Update

2016-10-06-12-20-38 2016-10-06-12-35-07

Thanks for checking in! We renamed the puppy Bender, and he is settling in very nicely. The people who fostered him did a very good job, because he is a very friendly, affectionate puppy who loves people, other dogs, butterflies – the only time I’ve seen him less than thrilled with another creature is when he barked at a neighborhood cat (who seemed completely unimpressed). His foster family must also have started potty training, because that has been practically effortless; he has only had a few accidents and has already chosen a spot in the backyard where he prefers to go. He loves running around in the backyard and even had a “play date” with a two-year-old schnoodle; they had a wonderful time.

Last week, we took him to the vet, who pronounced him fit and healthy except for a parasite that the vet said is common and easy to treat. We put the medicine in Bender’s food and he gobbled it up. We are taking him to the vet again next week to continue with his inoculations. He always wears his tags, and though he occasionally scratches at his collar, most of the time he doesn’t seem to notice it. We started him in puppy kindergarten, and he is learning quickly, though he does get distracted on walks. In fact, walks are the hardest thing right now, because he has to stop and examine every leaf, blade of grass, animal, human being etc. that crosses his path.

Thanks for the suggestions and the website links; we will definitely check them out. And thank you for introducing us to our wonderful new puppy!
