03-09-2012 (Week 6 in the Prison Program)

“Austin knows how to sit, lay and stay and didn’t bark while in his crate this week.  If he has something in his mouth and you tell him to drop it he will do it.  Austin became an honorary handler this week by taking Peaches for a walk.  The handler for Peaches dropped her leash to call her and Austin picked up the leash and walked her for 1 lap around the yard; everyone was amazed!”

03-03-2012 (Week 5 in the Prison Program)

“Austin is completely house-trained and knows all of his commands.  He will go in his crate and only occasionally barks when left alone.  He is playing well with the dogs and enjoys his twice a day exercise routine.  Austin has come a long way from his first week here and will continue to improve if the training continues when he is adopted.  Austin is the smallest dog in the program but he thinks he is the biggest dog.”

02-25-2012 (Week 4 in the Prison Program)

“Austin is still a fun and playful dog that craves your attention.  He knows the basic sit, down, and stay command and enjoys walking or running with you on the leash.  Austin is doing much better in the crate and will just sit in the crate when the door is opened and wait to come out until told to do so.  He only whines a little while in the crate and occasionally barks for about a minute.  He has come a long way with the crate-training.  He grabbed a big stick in the yard one day and had the other dogs chase him without any problems.”

02-18-2012 (Week 3 in the Prison Program)

“Austin (aka little mister) is a comfort dog who is willing to stay by your side and stare in your eyes as you talk to him about anything.  This dog really loves attention but he is becoming more independent and establishing his own identity, which is good but he likes to see how far he can go so boundaries need to be established.  He is a small dog but acts like a big dog.  He still needs some work on the crate-training since he doesn’t like to be away from humans.  He plays well with other dogs except when he finds a stick to chew.  He still knows his basic commands.”

02-11-2012 (Week 2 in Prison Program)

“Austin knows simple commands such as sit, lay down and stay.  He would come when called if he isn’t distracted. One thing that stands out about Austin is that he will look at you with his eyes and will give you his full attention if you’re talking to him.  It snowed this week and Austin would jump up to catch the snowflakes in his mouth like catching a ball…it was very cute!  Austin is doing much better in the crate this week and only whines sometimes when left alone.”

02-04-2012 (Week 1)

“Austin is a high-energy dog that loves to run around with you and other dogs.  He has a willingness to learn and obey simple commands.  He enjoys human companionship and plays well with other dogs (big or small).  He is crate trained to a degree but absolutely house broken.  At bath time, he didn’t like getting wet but he relaxed and came out squeaky clean.”

It’s hard to find the perfect words to describe Austin…. Handsome? Sweet? Playful? Affectionate? The list just keeps going! Austin is a great dog who will be the perfect family member to slide right into your daily routine. He won’t ask for much in return… just a lot of snuggles and a few extra treats!  He is so gentle and trainable! He now knows sit, stay, lay down, go to bed, come, leave it, and drop it.  He has loved every person & dog he meets.  He is well-behaved at the dog park and when visiting people’s homes.  He is housebroken when kept to a regular schedule and is very quiet at home.  He is good during baths and other grooming sessions.  Because he as a very people-oriented dog, he would prefer a household where he is not left alone very much.
