If you are looking for a dog to impress, you might think about Mack Truck. This beefy boy is big and muscular and just downright handsome. He is also housetrained, crate trained, good on a leash (especially with a gentle leader) and loving. He prefers the company of women, but will warm up to men as well and hasn't seen small children before. He has seen cats and decided they were for chasing, so his new home should be cat-free. Max has been well-loved but his owner couldn't take her big boy with her on a recent move and Max ended up homeless. Luckily, he was adopted from LDCRF in the past so he had a guaranteed place with us. Mack is sad and confused by kennel life and he is looking forward to more sofa time with a special someone in his future. Can it be you?

Matt Damon got movie star looks and a movie star name, but then his luck ran out.Poor Matt got dealt a bad hand when it comes to bones. Actually, it was two bad elbows and two bad knees. That's right, Matt has a problem with each of his four legs, all requiring surgery for correction and some extensive rehabilitation. We were heartbroken to learn of Matt's diagnosis because he is one of the friendliest dogs you will ever meet with an abundance of positive energy and an extra measure of playfulness. Matt's surgical needs are beyond what LDCRF can provide for him, but we want him to have a chance at the best life possible even with his challenges. Right now, he is enjoying playing with the other dogs, but we would like to see him find either a very loving foster home where he can continue on pain meds and enjoy as much life as his limbs can offer him, or an extremely generous benefactor who would help us pay for Matt's expensive surgeries. It's a longshot, but maybe the stars will shine on this big oaf of a damaged pup.

Parker got his name because he was abandoned in a park and left to fend for himself. Fortunately, he had the good sense to approach some guests at a wedding reception and even jumped in a car! Clearly, he knew he needed help and he was very lucky to get that help from Lost Dog. Parker is a little bit shy on first meetings, but warms up to his humans very quickly and gets attached. He is loving, affectionate and playful. He is crate trained and gets along well with other dogs. We have recommended older children because he is a little shy and will likely be scared by the noise and unpredictability of younger children. Parker is just looking for a stable home where he can be safe in the knowledge that he is there to stay forever and visits to parks are a treat rather than a tragedy.

When Peanut came to us, his back legs were twisted like pretzels. (Hang on. There's a good almost-ending.) His knees were severely bent, and he could only scoot on them. After four surgeries and lots of physical therapy from his foster, he has full use of his left rear leg and always improving use of his right rear leg. How's his behavior, you wonder? Starting with the basics, Peanut is housetrained and crate-trained already. He's a very sweet and loving dog with his people and is a wonderful snuggle companion. Peanut is shy and can be unsure with strangers. (An easy, gentle approach seems to work just fine with him, though.) He's understandably defensive about his legs, so he's not good with children. How about his personality? Peanut is quite the imp! He likes running (yes, running) in a fenced yard and playing with dog friends. He loves his favorite stuffed frog, ropey toy, and chew bones. This little rascal also enjoys burrowing under pillows, raiding laundry piles, and emptying closets of as many shoes as he can. This cutie is going to make you smile! Yes, Peanut has come so far, but it's still just an almost-ending. It won't be a real happily-ever-after until Peanut has a home with you forever. It's not that Priscilla has a short attention span, it's just that she wants to keep moving. This girl is so zippy! She's a very energetic dog and likes to zoom around investigating everything. She can also jump very high. Priscilla does take a break from all the adventure she uncovers, and she likes to share her love with her person. Soon she's back on her paws and racing around. She did well with other dogs at the Lost Dog Ranch, but was sometimes cantankerous when she met new dogs in her previous home. She is essentially housebroken, except for minor accidents when she gets really nervous. She has been exposed to cats, and mostly sniffs at them curiously.

Roscoe is a loving, joyful big goof of a hound dog. He loves going for walks and exploring the great outdoors, but otherwise is a low-energy dog who enjoys keeping his spot on the couch warm. Roscoe is great with kids, fine with cats and likes dogs. He is friendly to visitors and anyone he meets. His only issue in life is that he does not like to be alone. He does fine for about an hour or so, but starts to get anxious after that and so will need a special home. November is the month we set aside in the U.S. to give thanks for our blessings. Most people count their cats among their blessings, and in many cases, senior cats. While there is something very special about raising and caring for a young cat through its senior years, it takes a really special person to intentionally seek out and adopt a senior cat and give him or her a loving, caring home for the remainder of its life. These cats sometimes come with medical conditions requiring regular extra care and expensive medications. They are often not as playful or cute as younger cats and kittens. However, they simply can't be matched for devotion, unconditional love, and warm companionship.
Senior cats are perfect companions for older people who find it difficult to keep up with the antics of kittens. Older cats as housemates help fill in the void of loneliness and provide measurable benefits in lowering blood pressure and stress relief.
For many years, the ASPCA and Petfinder.com have worked together to sponsor November is the Adopt a Senior Pet Month.
