Set on 63 rural Virginia acres, the Lost Dog & Cat Ranch is a place for dogs to play and cats to climb; a place to breathe fresh air and prepare for the ultimate goal- life in a loving home.
Dogs are housed with compatible companions in indoor/outdoor runs, so there is always a buddy to play with for those who enjoy it. Dogs who prefer to be by themselves or aren’t able to share their space with other dogs for medical reasons get private kennels, extra toys, and leash walks with the staff. The kennels are heated and air-conditioned, and everybody has access to beds, blankets and plenty of food and water
The highlight of every dog’s day is playtime- which consists of two to three trips a day to fenced-in quarter acre yards where dogs can roll in the grass, sniff the ground, chase balls and wrestle with friends. This chance to burn some energy and just be a dog helps our dogs stay healthy and happy and allows them to practice their social skills with people and dogs.
The cats of Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation truly have it made. With a little “cat cabin” all to themselves and cage-free living, the cats enjoy a life of luxury. Their house is stocked with different types of cat furniture for climbing and scratching and plenty of beds, blankets and toys. The cats even have open access to a screened in porch where they can enjoy the fresh air and pass the time bird and bug watching to their heart’s content.
While our focus at LDCRF is on rescuing homeless dogs and cats, it wouldn’t be a ranch without farm animals in the fields, so we have those too! Our “Barn Crew” includes horses, donkeys, goats, pigs, longhorn steer, chickens, and roosters. Most of the farm animals came to us from area shelters, while some came from owners who couldn’t care for them. All of the farm animals will live out their lives at the Lost Dog Ranch.
