Unknown Learn MoreFreya is the Norse goddess known for her love of beauty and magic, which is fitting for this elegant jet black cat who embodies enigma. Multi-faceted Freya can be quite friendly, and affectionate at times. She has definite preferences about how best to pet her, and when, and will talk to you to let you know. Once she settles into her surroundings, she is usually pretty mellow and often enjoys hanging out near her people to lounge in the sun. From time to time she may come up on the couch to curl up next to you, but is usually not much of a lap cat — with occasional exceptions. She is an adored favorite of the teenage daughter in her foster home — we think perhaps because they’re both a bit quirky and opinionated (and sometimes need their own space)!
Freya seems sensitive to the emotions of her household, at times offering comfort when needed but sometimes preferring to find a quiet nook if tension or excitement is pervasive. (Her foster family jokes that Freya has discovered an interdimensional warp to disappear into — or possibly that she jets off to her secret career as an international clandestine agent.) But she always shows up again before long, when things are a bit calmer. Here’s a video of her “I’m so cute!” act as she enjoys a patch of sun.
Freya gets along with other cats in her foster home, occasionally playing a friendly round of tag, and often amiably sharing a cat tree or window view. In a former foster home she also seemed to be ok with the resident dogs. She would likely do well with most felines who are tolerant of other cats, or with an easy-going dog, given appropriate introductions. She could also do just fine as an only cat. Freya would do best with an experienced cat person/family, without young kids. She has excellent litterbox habits, prefers dry food, and enjoys her kitty drinking fountain.
