In 2009, I adopted Trina from Lost Dog Rescue. She was a Golden Retriever/Dachshund mix and brought much love to our family for many years. In October, I lost her suddenly due to a ruptured tumor. I was devastated as she had not been sick or anything and this was so unexpected. The following week, I received an email from LDCRF looking for Fosters due to space issues at the shelter. That email was a sign to me that I needed to move on and that there were other dogs out there needing love. I attended your adoption event in Arlington the following weekend and there I found Rey. Rey was a rescue from Puerto Rico who was a stray and had recently been treated for heart worm and was apparently full of ticks when found. He was such a sweet and mellow dog and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him. I brought him home that day and he has been my sidekick ever since. He is finally learning some English and knows how to sit, stay, and give paw and walks really well on a leash. He is very “scheduled” and knows how to tell me when it’s time to go for a walk, which we have been doing twice a day, rain or shine. I bought him a doggie raincoat because he was not fond of the rain at first and would not go out without me.
He’s also grown very close to my son who was away at college when I got Rey and he’s enjoying all of the extra attention that he’s getting during my son’s winter break from school.
He’s been such a positive addition to the household and it’s a true ‘who rescued who’ situation. I’m so glad that we found each other.
