Peppermint Patty’s new name is Maybelline or shortened, Mabel. She fits perfectly into our family of three kids, 2.5 year-old chocolate lab, a guinea pig and me. The two dogs spend endless time mouth sparring. They also often sleep/nap together. We all love Mabel very much.
Mabel is taking some time getting readjusted to proper toilet behavior. The last three nights she has slept in crate, which seems to be making the difference. But regarding training. it seems that Mabel has already been exposed to training similar to the training one would take in order to attain “canine good citizen.” I am training the older dog, Kelsey, to become a therapy dog and Mabel seems to be following commands meant for Kelsey and so I decided Mabel might as well go through formal training as well and when the trainer first met Mabel she commanded her to sit, lay down, relax ( lay on her side) and touch (the palm of the trainer’s hand… which Mabel performed flawlessly and without hesitation. Even though I had nothing to do with her training in these ways, I felt so proud to be the human associated with Mabel.
Mabel has been added to the wellness plan that Kelsey is on at Sterling Banfield and has visited there twice for check-up. She is very athletically gifted and has jumped our chain-link fence twice.
