Rhea, formerly known as L’Belle. This is her story:
Where to begin! Phoebe (fka Rae) had been settling in nicely. So much so that she was begging Calypso the dog (fka Georgia 2011) to play with her. Caly was having none of it (I could practically hear her saying “I’m old and tired and you have claws…I like you, but claws!”). I decided Phoebe needed a friend.
It was spontaneously on a Sunday that I looked on LDCRF website and found L’Belle. She was about the same age as Phoebe, and according to her bio, got along with everybody. I spoke to my cat loving sister who encouraged me to go see her – she’s a good enabler…
Off I went to the Tyson’s PetSmart to meet L’Belle – I was in a terrible hurry but I thought, “what’s the harm in looking?” I arrived, and similar to before with Phoebe, no L’Belle. “She’s coming soon” they assured me. I ran into the woman who was so kind to me when I got Phoebe. “You waited a long time for Rae…” She reminded me. “Here, you can fill out an application… Just in case…”
So I waited. Not too long. L’Belle arrived. Cute, sweet, and pretty soon I turned in my application and home we went.
Fast forward after a day locked in the bathroom, she was ready to be out. I opened the door. She ran smack into Phoebe. Phoebe was SO MAD. She hissed and growled. L’Belle just casually walked away. Hissing as growling (only from Phoebe) continued for 3 days. I was pretty worried! By the third day, however, Phoebe discovered she could hide under a blanket and play freely with L’Belle (She’d become Rhea, by this time). She’d occasionally stick her head out and hiss, but then go right back to playing. By the following day, the blanket disappeared. Eventually, maybe day 6, she stopped hissing all together. NOW they wrestle and chase each other like crazy kitties.
Rhea was EXACTLY the right cat we needed. She is so stinking sweet. Loves her people and her animal siblings, too. I’m so lucky… Any other cat and it might not have been the same outcome.
